Five Twenty-Eight Oh-Seven

Hi Everybody!

It's been forever and when I look back I feel like a bunch of things have happened in the last three months that's taken me so long to post... and now I don't remember everything anymore :) But enough of the diatribe and off to the blog. This one is mostly going to be pictures though because I gotta run soon - that's what everyone looks at anyway :p

1. Amy came to visit again in March. This is us out getting Japanese ramen at Daikokuya, which is supposed to be one of the best ramen places in LA. It was good but didn't really hold a candle to Halu Ramen in San Jose.

2. I went to visit my friend Leanne in Bakersfield. We went fishing (my first time) in the Kern River. We didn't catch anything but it was fun to learn to cast and stuff. It was really quite pretty too - this is a tree that was swept up to the top to the riverside boulders during the high water season.

3. Me fishing :) The hat looks a little small because it actually belongs to Leanne's friend's son (2 years old) who didn't want to wear it and since, I forgot mine, I figured what the heck.

4. My emergency medicine program also had our annual retreat. We went to Catalina for three days and basically it was a booze fest for much of the time. We did work for one morning but I was surprised we even got that much done :) This is us trying to see how many people we could fit in to the hot tub (32!)

5. Post the annual softball game, which the residents won for the first time in 10 years!

6. Out at the local pub. I'm glad some of our nurses (Michelle and Annette on the right) came along as well. The rest of these guys are drunk residents - yes, that's who's treating you in the ER when you show up in the middle of the night :)

7. Walking home after drinks. The hotel was located on top of this huge hill... next year, I say we choose one closer to the port :)

8. I also had my second three week vacation and went to the east coast. This is Union Square in Manhattan. It was quite nice actually as spring had just come and people were getting out and about. There was a farmet's market and street vendors that day too.

9. I stayed with Siavosh for a couple days in Brooklyn (he's doing quite well since moving out there though the work is rough) and then with Greg in the lower east side (east village?) for two days. We mainly just wandered around cause I had seen all the touristy stuff in NYC before but it was great to catch up with old friends. Here's a picture of coney island, which looked like it had seen better days.

10. Then I went to Boston where I stayed with Luis for several days. We had dinner at the Pho Lemongrass (a coolidge corner favorite) with Eric, Elizabeth, Davin, Scott, Shaina and surprise guest Colleen Sabatini - all good friends who I haven't seen in forever! It was great. This is picture of my other friends Sagar and Mina -- just chilling and listening to some classical music.

11. My old roommate CG actually was kind enough to take me out to the mall to buy a shirt because I forgot to bring anything out for the wedding. Unfortunately, we ran out of gas... ha, ha, it was quite an experience as we had to push the car across four lanes of traffic then walk to the nearest gas station for some petrol.

12. Melody's wedding out in the burbs of Boston. It was a really nice ceremony. They picked their own music which was really sweet and fun. To round out the trip, I also saw Joe Carlson (moving to Sweden), Dave Tytell (from high school), Irene Chen (tearing up the fasttrack to Harvard faculty) and Jean (preggers!) So good to see old friends :)

13. I also went up to SF again (lots of little flights... thank goodness for Southwest and Frontier airlines). This is Amy and I at the beach in San Francisco bay. We actually went up to Napa for a couple of days and stayed in this little bed and breakfast (1st B&B)... it was way cool.

14. A shot from the Marin Headlands on the north side of the Golden Gate. Of course, while I was in SF, I caught up with the old San Jose crew, Mukesh (who drove all the way out from Sac town), Kristin (back to Boston for a year), Suzanne, Amy, Deborah, Ray Cho & Jane. It was excellent!

I'll leave you with this sepia shot of the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco - I think it turned out quite well :) Til next time, Gadget. Next time.. Hope everyone is well!

Hey Nik,

Great pictures! It was cool to see you out here in Boston! Enjoyed reading the stories of your travels. We leave for Sweden in 4 weeks - yikes! But then you can have some photos of Stockholm on your next world tour.
See you,
Joe
